Walk entropies on graphs

Entropies based on walks on graphs and on their line-graphs are defined. They are based on the summation over diagonal and off-diagonal elements of the thermal Green’s function of a graph also known as the communicability. The walk entropies are strongly related to the walk regularity of graphs and line-graphs. They are not biased by the graph size and have significantly better correlation with the inverse participation ratio of the eigenmodes of the adjacency matrix than other graph entropies. The temperature dependence of the walk entropies is also discussed. In particular, the walk entropy of graphs is shown to be non-monotonic for regular but non-walk-regular graphs in contrast to non-regular graphs

Constraining gravity with hadron physics: neutron stars, modified gravity and gravitational waves

The finding of Gravitational Waves (GW) by the aLIGO scientific and VIRGO collaborations opens opportunities to better test and understand strong interactions, both nuclear-hadronic and gravitational. Assuming General Relativity holds, one can constrain hadron physics at a neutron star. But precise knowledge of the Equation of State and transport properties in hadron matter can also be used to constrain the theory of gravity itself. I review a couple of these opportunities in the context of modified f(R) gravity, the maximum mass of neutron stars, and progress in the Equation of State of neutron matter from the chiral effective field theory of QCD

El currículum integrado en el panorama educativo español

El autor en este trabajo, después de reconocer la dificultad que entraña la organización del currículum desde una lógica innovadora y distinta a la distribución en materias aisladas, hace un recorrido por algunas tentativas integradoras (globalizadas) efectuadas en nuestro contexto nacional. Se identifican seguidamente las coincidencias que se aprecian entre ellas y que indudablemente apuntan hacia una alternativa realizable que cuenta con una importante tradición entre los grupos y experiencias más inquietos en el panorama educativo innovador, aunque no por ello sea fácil su implementación dado su carácter antihegemónico, aspecto éste que más que obstáculo debería ser entendido como un reto capaz de romper con el monótono discurso curricular comúnmente aceptado.___________________________________ The author, after recognizing the difficulty that has the organization of the curriculum from an innovator logic and different to the distribution in isolated matters, makes a run for some integrated attempts (global) realized in our national context. The coincidences between them are identified, these that undoubtly point at a realizable alternative that has an important tradition between the most anxious groups and experiences in the innovator educational panorama. The implementation of these experiences is not easy due to its non-hegemonic character, and this aspect before being an obstacle must be understood as a challenge with a capacity of breaking with the monotonous curricular discours

Design of a power amplifier for wireless communications using microstrip technology and Microwave Office

This paper provides a detailed description and all the procedures involved in designing a power amplifier using microstrip technology and the design software Microwave OfficeTM. Specifically, the design is oriented to build an amplifier with central frequency at 14 GHz, but the same fundamentals and principles could be applied in the whole range of radio frequency. For the design, a MESFET transistor and simultaneous input and output matching networks are considered. The values of the parameters and the simulation for every stage are computed and performed using AWR Microwave OfficeTM. At the end of the document, a fully functional circuit layout represented in 2D and 3D is shown with all their complementary element

La nación entre rejas. Régimen penitenciario y carcelario en Colombia en el siglo XIX: el caso del Estado Soberano de Bolívar

En este artículo se analiza la historia de la prisión en Colombia en el siglo XIX, el contexto cultural y político en que se impulsó la reforma carcelaria a mediados del siglo XIX y el impacto de esta en el devenir posterior de esta institución en Colombia. Igualmente se hace énfasis en el período federal radical, especialmente en la situacióncarcelaria y penitenciaria del Estado Soberano de Bolívar. Se describen las diferentes circunstancias por las que atravesó el sistema penitenciario en las diferentes provincias del Estado de Bolívar, la vida en las cárceles, la situación de los reos, las estrategias educativas y productivas  implementadas dentro de los centros de reclusión, la crisis financiera y sus efectos de inseguridad y de hacinamiento. También se analizan las fórmulas financieras aplicadas para subsanar la crisis y las estrategias administrativas locales impulsadas como mecanismos de control y de regulación de la vida carcelaria que buscaban corregir el pésimo funcionamiento de estas instituciones y el impacto negativo para la toda la sociedad del Estado Soberano de Bolívar

Biotechnologies for air pollution control: overcoming design and operational limitations

Tradicionalmente la contaminación ambiental ha recibido menor atención que otros tipos de contaminación. Sin embargo hoy en día el mundo se enfrenta a importantes desafíos relacionados con contaminantes gaseosos. Este tipo de contaminación puede tratarse mediante tecnologías "end-of-pipe" que se clasifican en dos tipos: físico/químicas y biológicas. Las tecnologías biológicas son alternativas más sostenibles, pero aún presentan limitaciones para su implementación a gran escala o su adaptación a algunos tipos concretos de contaminantes. La presente tesis realizó un análisis del estado del arte de diferentes tecnologías para el tratamiento de la contaminación atmosférica identificando sus ventajas e inconveninentes. Una vez identificados los puntos débiles de las tecnologías biológicas, se propusieron distintas soluciones desde el punto de vista microbiológico y de operación para superarlos.Departamento de Ingeniería Química y Tecnología del Medio Ambient

Online advertising: analysis of privacy threats and protection approaches

Online advertising, the pillar of the “free” content on the Web, has revolutionized the marketing business in recent years by creating a myriad of new opportunities for advertisers to reach potential customers. The current advertising model builds upon an intricate infrastructure composed of a variety of intermediary entities and technologies whose main aim is to deliver personalized ads. For this purpose, a wealth of user data is collected, aggregated, processed and traded behind the scenes at an unprecedented rate. Despite the enormous value of online advertising, however, the intrusiveness and ubiquity of these practices prompt serious privacy concerns. This article surveys the online advertising infrastructure and its supporting technologies, and presents a thorough overview of the underlying privacy risks and the solutions that may mitigate them. We first analyze the threats and potential privacy attackers in this scenario of online advertising. In particular, we examine the main components of the advertising infrastructure in terms of tracking capabilities, data collection, aggregation level and privacy risk, and overview the tracking and data-sharing technologies employed by these components. Then, we conduct a comprehensive survey of the most relevant privacy mechanisms, and classify and compare them on the basis of their privacy guarantees and impact on the Web.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
